If you are thinking of joining us then here’s some useful information about our group which might help you decide if performing English Country or Playford Dancing is for you:
Our dance displays are performed at a variety of indoor / outdoor venues sometimes with a large and very appreciative audience. Take a look at our Past Events diary to get an idea of where we have performed – we love dancing at historical venues.
Our members live all over the North West and come together to practise and perform. Please note we are a performance team rather than a dance class. We dance at a mixture of local and occasionally national events. Some of our best events have been weekend trips away though these are completely optional and usually no more than once or twice a year. After our performances we often enjoy socialising: having tea and cake or a meal together or perhaps doing some informal social or ceilidh dancing or going to a pub music session if we’re staying away.
We have a wide repertoire of dances involving lots of different moves. You may find you know some of them if you’ve been to a barn dance or ceilidh although our style of dancing is much closer to the dance scenes of the BBC costume drama “Pride and Prejudice”.
We practise monthly and usually perform up to a dozen times a year. If you are interested in joining then we usually recommend you attend a minimum of three monthly practices first to see if you fit in with us and we fit in with you.
As our practices are just once a month (on a Sunday afternoon) it’s really important to attend regularly in order to interact with and get to know all our members as well as giving yourself the best possible chance of learning the different dances. At our practices you will find that all our dances are clearly explained and that everything is first walked and talked through with you with very clear instructions from our three dance leaders and lots of support from your fellow dancers.
Please note our dancing requires a reasonable level of fitness and energy.
If you think this activity might be for you, then please fill in the website enquiry form and let us know what excites you about the team, why you want to be in it and even if you’ve done something similar before. We’ll be back in contact with you as soon as we can to explain a bit more. We look forward to hearing from you!
